Sergeant Mkhize

Sergeant Mkhize is a police officer whose role in a drug-related operation came under scrutiny during the commission’s proceedings. Described by counsel as essentially a lift or transport provider—someone tasked with moving bags rather than taking part in the operational work—Mkhize’s involvement was nonetheless questioned in testimony. Colonel Jacob suggested that Mkhize had claimed the container from which drugs were recovered was not among those slated for inspection, and that he was not part of the operation itself. Jacob also indicated that Mkhize would have alerted the team had he known other agencies were interested in the container. Warrant Officer Mpangase, however, noted in a statement that Mkhize and others were present and observing at the scene.
