Mr Boy Mthethwa emerged in the commission’s testimony as a figure at the centre of a tense standoff at a demarcated neutral space, described by Lieutenant General Khumalo as having attempted to cross the red tape barrier. Khumalo’s account linked Mthethwa to the events that led investigators to identify him as the “activator of the Hawks,” recounting how Mthethwa, identifying himself as a brother to Katiso Molefe, threatened to call the Hawks if refused entry. His alleged phone conversation with Brigadier Mokoena, relayed through Captain Wanda’s evidence, was presented as corroborating those earlier utterances, though the claims remain contested.
