Sergeant Govender

Sergeant Govender, a member of the Border Police, testified about his involvement in the transport of drug exhibits recovered from a container depot. According to his account, he and his colleagues were conducting inspections at the CHC Depot and Prospecton when they were approached by a man identifying himself as Colonel Jacob of DPCI Durban, who requested their assistance in moving the recovered drugs using their state vehicle. His testimony contrasted with that of Colonel Jacob, who initially suggested the Border Police members were part of the exhibit conveyance but later acknowledged, upon reviewing statements, that they were not. The commission also heard that Govender’s version placed him and his team as having been approached during their normal duties, rather than being present at the discovery.
