Steve Motsumi

Steve Motsumi is a figure who surfaced during the commission’s proceedings through the testimony of Lieutenant General Sibiya, who described him as being involved in construction, money lending, and the taxi industry. Sibiya indicated that Motsumi was suggested as a potential intermediary to help address a volatile situation involving taxis, with the general proposing that Motsumi might assist in reaching certain people, possibly including discussions about Matlala’s alleged involvement in a kidnapping. However, Motsumi’s exact role was questioned, with counsel pressing whether he was being treated as an informant and noting that an application described him as a very dangerous person. Separately, it was mentioned that Motsumi was advancing R20 million to Medicare24 Tshwane District in late April 2025.
