Alexander Fritz
reservist
Alexander Fritz, also known as Zander, is a self-employed police reservist who was based at the Brakpan Police Station and worked in that capacity for numerous stations. During the commission’s proceedings, he faced questions about his interactions with the family of a deceased individual, with testimony describing how he introduced himself to the mother while investigating a truck robbery, warning her not to let anyone drive the vehicle and instructing her to contact him before responding to other police inquiries. He also faced scrutiny over his conduct, including whether he misrepresented his authority, as one advocate questioned whether police officers could legitimately operate under a reservist’s leadership. Additional testimony raised questions about his associations, including claims that he understood certain individuals to be part of an EMPD hijackings unit and that he arrived at one location with uniformed officers in a marked SAPS vehicle.
