Nico Mathobela

Nico Mathobela is a figure who surfaced during the commission’s proceedings in connection with Tshwane municipal procurement matters. Described by General Dlamini as someone who did administrative work assisting people with tender compilations and related documents, he was also said to have helped with applications for bus documents. Dlamini noted that Mathobela chose the word “vehicles” to refer to certain companies, a phrasing Dlamini adopted when relaying messages to Sergeant Nkosi, and that Mathobela was at ease suggesting people contact him directly. However, Advocate Chaskalson SC contended that Mathobela had no legitimate role in the TMPD-1 procurement process, leaving his precise involvement a point of scrutiny.
