Warrant Officer Sihlangu is a police officer whose handling of ballistic evidence came under scrutiny during the commission’s proceedings. Testimony described her as the officer responsible for processing specimens in a Vereeniging case, where she did not proceed with acquiring the specimens on the IBIS database. Brigadier Mkhabela’s account suggested that upon opening a sealed bag, she should have realised the specimens had already been acquired under ballistic lab number 193045/2024, linked to the Bramley case. Her decision not to proceed was framed as stemming from the specimens already existing on the system, though the adequacy of her review of the sealed evidence was questioned.
