Radovan Krejčer

Radovan Krejčer is a figure who surfaced repeatedly in testimony before the Commission, described by counsel as a central player in alleged criminal dealings that reached into the upper ranks of the police. He was said to have had a relationship with General Mabasa on one side and Colonel Steyn on the other, and was accused of keeping senior police officials on his payroll. Testimony described him as involved in smuggling cigarettes from Zimbabwe into South Africa, with corrupt officers assisting the operation. He was also alleged to have threatened a witness, warning that he could put a bullet in his forehead if he was lying, and to have confronted the same witness about his phone contact with an investigator. Krejčer was arrested in January 2014.
